Can Chiropractic improve you Golf Game?

A study in Brazil on golfers with a handicap under 15 found a statistical significant improvement in full swing assessment (as recommended by PGA) with 4 treatments. Manipulation and stretching was found to be more effective than stretching alone.

Effective for Treating Shoulder Pain

Chiropractic manipulation with soft-tissue therapy has been shown to be effective in treating pain and dysfunction in the shoulder. This benefit was seen at 4 weeks and 4 months. Pain was reduced from 6.7 on a 10-point scale to 1.8 after 4 weeks and 1.4 after 4 months.

Chiropractic and Soccer

The results of Dr Meersseman (Chiropractor) as Medical Director of AC Milan speak for themselves.

Since the implementation of the project in 2002, the incidence of nontraumatic injuries has dropped by 92%. "Before we implemented our holisticallybased chiropractic approach, we had so many injuries we needed about 35 players in the team. Today, we only require 22. There was a time when nontraumatic injuries lead to the use about 7 injections per week. Last year, 4 injections were made for the entire year." Dr Meersseman

Beam Trial

1334 patients in the UK were treated using ‘best care’ that consisted of advice to stay active, avoid bed rest, and use The Back Book. They were compared to groups receiving manipulation and exercise.

Results showed that patients receiving manipulation and exercise achieved a significant benefit over and above that of ‘best care’ at 3 months and 12 months.
Manipulation alone produced a benefit at 3 months and 12 months.
Exercise achieved a small benefit at 3 months only.

Workplace Study

Two companies 750 employees referred them for chiropractic treatment for neck/arm and back/leg pain over 2 years in 1994/95. The companies subsidised the cost of care in the expectation of better effectiveness, patient satisfaction, and overall cost savings.

The results were extremely high self-rated improvement and patient satisfaction, and an 18% net saving of costs in the first year (30% saving in disability/ sickness payments minus 12% for subsidised treatment costs.)
There was about a 40% net saving in the second year.

Danish Study Long term LBP

Persistent low back pain at a young age is a strong predictor of low back pain later in life with odds ratios as high as 4 (i.e. 4 times the risk)

The study is based on surveys of members of a Danish Twin register born between 1972 and 1982. The surveys were performed in 1994 and 2002. The respondents were between 12 and 22 years old at the first survey and 20 to 30 years old for the second survey.

Spinal Fusion

Stress in the disc increases up to 96% after fusion, and with double fusion there is even more stress. Generally there is greater stress at the disc level inferior to the fusion rather than the disc level superior
